A longtime dream became a reality for Stone Ridge Christian High senior Caitlyn Cole on Wednesday. The Knights senior will get an opportunity to play college softball.

Cole signed her national letter of intent to play softball for Colorado State University-Pueblo in front of family, friends, coaches and teammates on Wednesday.

“I’ve always wanted to play college softball,” Cole said. “It’s a goal I’ve been working toward. I’m so excited I get to continue that goal. It’s every little girl’s dream to play the sport they love.”

Cole played varsity softball at Stone Ridge Christian all four years, playing a key role on the Knights 2019 team that won a Sac-Joaquin Section Division VII championship.

Cole hit .656 for the Knights, tying for the team lead with six stolen bases in 10 games this past spring.

Cole also played basketball and volleyball at Stone Ridge Christian. She scored her 1,000th career point for the Knights on Tuesday night against Venture Academy.

Cole was an all-league honoree in volleyball and averages over 21 points per game in basketball. “I think it helps to be a multi-sport athlete because you get to learn different movements and skills that can help you improve in softball,” Cole said.

She heads to Colorado State University-Pueblo as a utility player with the ability to play middle infield, catcher or outfield.

Cole came in contact with Thunder Wolves coach Bianca Duran during a softball tournament showcase. She eventually visited the campus while participating in a softball camp. “I just fell in love with the environment,” Cole said.

She built a relationship with Duran, liked her future teammates, and fell in love with the facilities on campus. Cole, who compiled a 4.26 GPA at SRC, plans to major in health science in college.

Cole is excited for the next chapter in softball.

“There was a lot of hard work that went into it,” Cole said. “I’m grateful for every extra round of batting practice and every extra bucket of ground balls. It all paid off. I thank all my coaches, family and every one that came to all my games and supported me.”
