Football Roundup: Buhach Colony, Atwater, Los Banos all pick up road wins in openers

The Buhach Colony High School defense recorded a safety and intercepted four passes in a shutout 19-0 win over Gregori in the season opener for both teams on Friday night in Modesto.

Josh Hendrickson connected on a touchdown pass to Kailin Frade for one of the Thunder’s two touchdowns. Junior quarterback Patrick Curran threw a touchdown pass to Julian Ruiz for BC’s second touchdown.

Buhach Colony will host Hanford next week.

Golden Valley 28, Del Campo 20 — Cougars running back Jahkylle Smith scored two touchdowns to help Golden Valley start the season with a victory.

Smith scored on runs of 3 and 13 yards in the first half.

Golden Valley quarterback Eleazar Garza added an 18-yard scoring strike to Ethain Vang and defensive back Jonah White helped the Cougars put the game away by returning an interception for a score.

Atwater 65, Valley 0 — Six different Falcons scored touchdowns as the game was playing with a running clock from the middle of the second quarter.

Los Banos 21, Dos Palos 14 — Tigers quarterback David Herrera scored on a 13-yard touchdown run with 3:44 remaining and Los Banos held on to win the Westside War at Bill Hume Stadium in Dos Palos.

Dos Palos had the ball inside the Tigers’ 40-yard line with less than a minute left, but the Tigers recovered a fumble to seal the victory.

Herrera rushed for 127 yards and scored two touchowns on the ground and added a touchdown pass to Ayden Barcellos.

Dos Palos quarterback Peyton Van Worth rushed for a touchdown and threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Sixto Ibarra.

Le Grand 14, Livingston 7 — Bulldogs quarterback Julian Bucio connected on two touchdown passes with Ronnie Ramirez of 92 and 20 yards and the Le Grand defense did the rest.

Le Grand’s Hernan Cortez made a key fumble recovery late in the fourth quarter to help preserve the win.

Zack Duran scored Livingston’s lone touchdown on a 3-yard run in the third quarter that tied the game at 7-7.

Mariposa 36, Yosemite 12 (Thursday) — Leo Ghaleb and Ty Holt both scored two rushing touchdowns to lead the Grizzlies past the Badgers.

Mariposa racked up 233 yards on the ground and scored five rushing touchdowns.
