Football Roundup: Golden Valley shows offensive power in win over Madera South

The Golden Valley High School football team hurt Madera South with some big plays en route to a 35-7 win over the Stallions on Friday night.

The Cougars improved to 2-0 with the win.

Golden Valley quarterback Eleazar Garza used his legs and his arms to lead the Cougars offense attack, scoring on runs of 57 and 21 yards.

Garza also connected with junior receiver Jonah White on a 40-yard touchdown pass.

Cougars running back Jahkylle Smith also scored on touchdown runs of 57 and 17 yards.

Golden Valley will host Sierra of Manteca at Veterans Stadium next Friday.

Hanford 66, Buhach Colony 21 — The Pullpups proved too explosive for the Thunder as the Buhach Colony lost its home opener.

Hanford put the game away with 30 third-quarter points.

The Thunder will led by running back Jaxson Percoats who finished with 156 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.

Buhach Colony (1-1) will host Enochs next week.

Clovis East 52, Atwater 21 — The Timberwolves jumped out to a 39-7 lead at the half to take control of the game early.

The Falcons will hit the road for the third consecutive week to start the season on Friday when Atwater faces Gregori, which opened the seaons with losses to Buhach Colony and Merced.

Central Valley 18, Pacheco 17 — The Panthers missed a game-winning 22-yard field goal in the final seconds to lose their season opener on the road.

Luiz Munoz drilled a 32-yard field goal to give Central Valley the 18-17 lead with 3:54 left in the game.

Abel Bravo and Abraham Fernandez gave Pacheco an early 14-0 lead with first-quarter touchdown runs.

Pacheco travels to Seaside next Friday.

Summerville 34, Dos Palos 28 — Braylong Liveroos scored on a 25-yard touchdown run with 2:19 left in the game to lift the Bears to a win over the Broncos.

Dos Palos running back Mike Cantu scored two rushing touchdowns in the third quarter to give the Broncos a 28-20 lead, but Summerville outscored Dos Palos 14-0 the rest of the way.

Cantu rushed for 99 yards and the two scores on 17 carries.

Elias Esquivel tied a school record with a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown that tied the game at 14-14 in the second quarter.

Stone Ridge Christian 20, Justin Garza 18 — The Knights sealed the two-point victory by running out the final 6 minutes and 5 seconds by picking up five first downs.

Hector Esquivez had a big day on the ground, scoring all three of SRC’s touchdowns.

Connor Rae led the Knights defense with four tackles for loss.

Stone Ridge Christian travels to Foresthill next Friday.

Chowchilla 13, Fresno 12 — Maleek Cobian scored two touchdowns and the Tribe held on for a narrow win over the Warriors.

Cobian scored on a 9-yard run and a 33-yard catch to help give Chowchilla (1-1) a 13-0 lead at the half.

Fresno scored two touchdowns in the third quarter. The Warriors opted to go for two after missing the extra point on the first score, but the Tribe made the stop to preserve the lead.
