Roundup: Golden Valley remains undefeated, Atwater, Buhach Colony pick up first CCC wins

The Golden Valley High football team took a 37-0 lead in the first half and cruised to a 44-21 win over Sierra on Friday night at Veterans Stadium.

It was the usual suspects for the Cougars as quarterback Eleazar Garza, running back Jahkylle Smith and receiver Jonah White all had big games.

Garza connected on two touchdowns with White and also threw a screen pass to Smith that went 55 yards for a score.

Garza also scored on two runs of 21 and 46 yards.

The Cougars improved to 5-0 this season and will travel to Central Valley next week.

Buhach Colony 42, Central Valley 21 — The Thunder erased an early 14-0 deficit to defeat the Hawks for to improve to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the CCC.

Thunder running back Jaxson Percoats turned in another stellar performance with three touchdowns and over 150 yards rushing.

Quarterback PJ Curran connected with receiver Kailin Frade for two touchdown passes.

Caprice Calhoun made his season debut after sitting out the first five games after transferring and scored on a 40-yard touchdown run.

Atwater 50, El Capitan 29 — Josue Garcia and Colin Williams both scored two touchdowns as the Falcons celebrated homecoming night with a victory over the winless Gauchos.

Atwater improved to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the CCC.

El Capitan dropped to 0-6 and 0-2 in the CCC.

Pacheco 29, Lathrop 23 — Daniel Scott scored two touchdowns as the Panthers improved to 2-0 in the Western Athletic Conference and 3-2 overall.

Abel Bravo and Brandon De Reza added touchdowns for the Panthers, who played their first home game of the season.

Le Grand 49, Waterford 35 — The Bulldogs turned four turnovers into scoring drives as they rebounded from their first loss of the season last week to Orestimba with a victory over the Wildcats.

Brian Santos returned in interception 74 yards in the second quarter to give Le Grand (4-1, 1-1 Southern League) a 28-14 lead at the half.

Le Grand pounded the ball on the ground with running backs Louis Aguallo and Alexis Granados. Aguallo finished with 14 carries for 89 yards and three touchdowns. Granados added 11 carries for 139 yards and two scores.

Summerville 34, Stone Ridge Christian 26 — The Bears scored on their final drive and held off the Knights and remain undefeated at 5-0.

Max Friedman had scored on a touchdown pass from Noah Lund to pull SRC within 27-26, but the Knights failed on the two-point conversion with 5:25 left in the game.

Stone Ridge Christian dropped to 4-2 on the season.

Dos Palos 42, Chowchilla 7 — The Broncos picked up their first win of the season as running back Drake Hennagan scored five touchdowns.

Hennagan scored on runs of 3, 5, 8 and 23 yards and also caught a 61-yard touchdown pass from Peyton Van Worth as the Broncos jumped out to a 42-0 lead.

Van Worth finished with 95 yards rushing on nine carries.
