Roundup: Buhach Colony star running back has record-breaking night in Bloss Bowl victory
Jaxson Percoats had a record-setting night as the dynamic running back’s career is nearing an end at Buhach Colony High School.
The Thunder senior shined again, scoring on touchdown runs of 40, 31, 63 yards to help lead his team to a 31-25 victory over Awater in Bloss Bowl XVII at Dave Honey Stadium in Atwater on Friday night.
Percoats came into Friday’s crosstown rivalry game needing 145 yards to surpass former Thunder star Jarrell Davis’s mark of 1,570 yards for the school’s single-season rushing record.
Percoats racked up 166 yards against the Falcons (3-7 overall, 2-4 Central California Conference) to bring his season total to 1,591 yards. Percoats’ 2,669 career rushing yards is just two yards shy of Dallon Muse’s career record of 2,671 yards.
“Those records don’t mean anything to me,” Percoats said. “I just try to give my teammates a 100% effort, I try to give them my very best. I wouldn’t have broke those records without their help.”
It was a special week for Percoats already after he verbally committed to Southern Utah earlier this week.
The Falcons jumped out to an early 12-3 lead with the help of a double-pass as receiver Colton Dukes hauled in the trick play for a long touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. It was one of two touchdown catches on the night for Dukes.
Kailin Frade returned a kickoff back for a touchdown to pull Buhach Colony (4-6, 2-4 CCC) within 12-10.
Percoats took over from there, breaking free for three long touchdown runs. His 2,162 all purpose yards this season is also a single-season record at Buhach Colony.
Frade added a key interception later in the game.
“Tonight was extremely fun,” Percoats said. “We were firing on all cylinders. We got the trophy back to Buhach Colony. That’s awesome.”
