Atwater boys rout Golden Valley to remain undefeated, GV wrestling clinches CCC title
The Atwater High boys basketball team moved one step closer to winning a third consecutive Central California Conference championship with a 71-47 win over Golden Valley on Wednesday night at Cougar Arena.
The Falcons improved to 24-0 overall and 8-0 in the CCC. Atwater owns a two-game lead over GV and El Capitan with just four games remaining.
Colton Dukes led four Atwater players in double figures with 16 points. Jayden Hillyer connected on four 3-pointers and finished with 13 points. Leo Cebrero added 11 points and Tyler Parr scored 10.
Golden Valley fell to 13-10 overall and 5-2 in the CCC.
Izaivian Goode paced the Cougars with 15 points. Jeff Tangaan nailed four 3-pointers to finish with 14 points.
El Capitan 74, Buhach Colony 34 — Carson Trost knocked down six 3-pointers to lead the Gauchos with 22 points in a 40-point victory over the Thunder.
Will Bain and Brody Collins both scored 10 points for El Capitan, which improved to 13-10 overall and 5-2 in the CCC.
The Gauchos will host Golden Valley on Friday.
Boys Wrestling
Golden Valley 33, Merced 31 — The Cougars clinched at least a share of their fourth consecutive CCC championship with a narrow win over the Bears in a battle of unbeaten teams in the conference.
Trytin Gastellum earned a pin in the 285-pound match to clinch the victory for the Cougars (6-0 CCC).
