Football Roundup: Merced, Golden Valley both pick up their first wins this season
Merced High School quarterback Quintelle Dupree threw two touchdowns and ran for another score to help lead the Bears to a 39-27 win over Gregori on Friday night at Cathie Hostetler Stadium.
Dupree connected with Chase Smith and Jeremy Garcia on touchdown passes and also ran in a score from 25 yards out.
Merced’s Aden Garza also returned an interception for a touchdown as the Bears’ built a 33-13 lead in the third quarter.
Merced (1-1) travels to Modesto to play Downey next week.
Golden Valley 47, Madera South 7 — The Cougars jumped out to a 40-0 lead at the half as they improved to 1-1 this season.
Golden Valley scored twice on defense and returned a punt for a score during the first-half barrage.
The Cougars (1-1) travel to Sierra in Manteca next week.
Atwater 50, McNair 6 — The Falcons improved to 2-0 on the season as quarterback James Bell threw three touchdown passes.
Senecca Ybarra Jr. returned a punt 60 yards for a score and hauled a touchdown catch for Atwater. Teammate Dhenym Jackson broke free for a 50-yard touchdown run.
The Falcons defense also stood out as Niko Gregory recorded two sacks and Lorenzo Madrid intercepted a pass.
The Falcons host Gregori next week.
Hilmar 21, Los Banos 13 — The Yellowjackets defense stopped the Tigers near the red zone late in the game to hold onto the victory.
Hilmar quarterback Caden Bailey scored on a 70-yard touchdown run on the second play of the game on his way to a big night.
Los Banos quarterback David Herrera connected with Adam Aguilar on two touchdown passes.
Pacheco 45, Livingston 20 — Able Bravo and Aiden Pikas both scored two touchdowns on the ground and Pikas added a touchdown pass as the Panthers improved to 1-1 this season.
Le Grand 39, Esparto 0 — Bulldogs senior Reyes Diaz returned a punt 65 yards for a score and pulled in a 33-yard touchdown catch to help the Bulldogs improve to 2-0 this season.
The game was stopped at halftime with Esparto short on players.
Le Grand running back Alexis Granados scored two rushing touchdowns and quarterback Diego Martinez threw two scores and ran in another touchdown.
Stone Ridge Christian 54, Gustine 14 — Sawyer Wood, Aidan Skeen and DJ O’Neil all scored two touchdowns as the Knights improved to 2-0.
Stone Ridge Christian quarterback Mario Perez threw four touchdowns on the night.
Dos Palos 34, Summerville 27 — Broncos quarterback Peyton Van Worth threw for 323 yards and two touchdowns to help Dos Palos pick up its first win of the season.
Van Worth scored on a 1-yard touchdown run for the only score in the fourth quarter to break a 27-27 tie.
Dos Palos sophomore running back Andre Flores rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown and also caught a touchdown.
Chowchilla 38, Fresno 0 — The Tribe’s Davian Stephenson filled in at quarterback with Brenson Soares out with an injury and threw two touchdown passes.
Stephenson connected with Martin Villagomez on a 30-yard scoring strike and Dellvonta Vaughn on a 27-yard touchdown pass.
Stephenson also threw three two-point conversions.
Travis Selby scored on touchdown runs of six and 49 yards for Chowchilla (1-1). Dwayne Hemphill added a 3-yard touchdown run
