Football Roundup: Golden Valley comes back late to defeat Central Valley in CCC action

The Golden Valley High School football team overcame a seven-point, secondhalf deficit to defeat Central Valley 23-14 at Veterans Stadium on Friday night.

Senior receiver Jonah White hauled in a 23-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Austin Mello to give the Cougars a 15-14 lead over the Hawks midway through the fourth quarter.

Deavon Williams tacked on his second rushing touchdown of the game with 3:05 left to extend the Cougars’ lead to 23-14.

Golden Valley improved to 2-1 in the Central California Conference and 5-2 overall. The loss was the first CCC defeat for Central Valley (2-1 CCC, 4-3 overall).

Patterson 49, Atwater 15 — The Tigers (2-1 CCC, 6-1 overall) bounce back after last week’s loss to Merced with a convincing win over the Falcons.

Atwater dropped to 2-2 in the CCC and 4-4 overall.

Hilmar 35, Ripon 0 — The Yellowjackets jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter with the help of two rushing touchdowns by Caden Bailey.

The Hilmar junior scored on first-quarter runs of 67 and 2 yards. Running back Logan Cardoso added a 9-yard touchdown run in the first quarter for Hilmar.

The Yellowjackets improve to 2-0 in the Trans-Valley League and 5-2 overall. Hilmar will face Escalon at Modesto Junior College in a TVL showdown next week.

Ripon Christian 56, Le Grand 14 — Grant Sonke and Brady Grondz each had three touchdown runs for the Knights, which improved to 4-0 in the Southern League and 6-1 overall.

The game was called with just over 10 minutes left after a Le Grand player suffered a potential serious injury.

Bulldogs quarterback Diego Martinez threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Miguel Moreno and added a six-yard touchdown run for both of Le Grand’s scores.

Dos Palos 44, Mendota 41 — Broncos quarterback Peyton Van Worth completed 20 of 27 passes for 296 yards and four touchdowns to lead Dos Palos to a big West Sierra League win.

Van Worth connected with Jesus Bon on a 37-yard touchdown pass to give the Broncos a 42-41 lead in the fourth quarter. Bon converted the two-point conversion for the final margin of victory.

Van Worth threw three second-half touchdowns to help the Broncos erase a 34-22 deficit in the third quarter.

Dos Palos improved to 2-0 in the WSL and 6-1 overall.

Chowchilla 26, Fowler 22 — Tribe running back Dellvonta Vaughn scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 4-yard run in third-quarter run as Chowchilla held on to improve to 4-0 in the Northwest Sequoia League and 5-2 overall.

Tribe quarterback Davian Stephenson was injured with a possible concussion in the second quarter and didn’t return.

Junior Travis Selby filled in at quarterback and threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Andre Pulliam in the second quarter. Pulliam, who also left with an injury, scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter.

Stephenson scored on a 34-yard run in the second quarter before he left with an injury.

Chowchilla travels to Minarets next week.
