Stone Ridge Christian girls volleyball upsets top seed to earn shot at section title
The Stone Ridge Christian High School girls volleyball team upset top-seeded Vacaville Christian 3-1 on Tuesday night to punch their ticket to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI championship game.
The No. 4 seeded Knights (23-11) defeated the Lions (16-4) 25-19, 19-25, 25-23, 28-26 in the semifinal match that was held at Will C. Wood High School in Vacaville.
Stone Ridge Christian will face No. 2 Sacramento Country Day (23-4) in the championship on Saturday at a neutral site to be determined. The Cavaliers defeated No. 3 Sacramento Waldorf 3-1 in the other semifinal match on Tuesday night.
The Knights will be trying to win their first blue section banner since 2019.
“This is huge,” said Stone Ridge Christian first-year head coach Jessica Pinasco-Radomskiy. “I have some young girls on the team and other girls that are playing new positions for the first time. To make this section championship game appearance shows how much they’ve improved and how much they’ve accomplished.”
The Knights were led by senior McKynna Baer, who finished with 22 kills and two blocks. Sophomore Peyton Shaw added 11 kills. Sara Raya (19 assists) and Madeline Schoor (18 assists) helped orchestrate the offense.
The Stone Ridge Christian defense stepped up big as Cali Cole registered 23 digs and Amy Villa added 13 digs.
“Our defense was so good tonight,” Pinasco-Radomskiy said. “Our libero and middle back picked up everything. Everybody was diving on the floor. We probably had more blocks tonight than we’ve had all season.”
Chowchilla 3, Sierra 0 — The No. 3 seeded Tribe swept No. 15 Sierra 3-0 in the Central Section Division V semifinals on Tuesday night.
Chowchilla will face the No. 1 seed California City in the championship match on Thursday.
