Football Roundup: Le Grand offense explodes in playoff win, Linden blanks Golden Valley

Le Grand High School sophomore Diego Martinez carved up the Waterford offense, throwing for 220 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs to a 62-36 win over Waterford in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VII playoffs.

Reyes Diaz and Grant Richardson each hauled in two touchdown catches for the No. 3A seeded Bulldogs (9-2), who wil advance to the second round against No. 2A seed Orestimba.

Le Grand senior running back Alexis Granados added 180 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Diaz also returned an interception 62 yards for a touchdown during a second quarter that saw Le Grand outscore Waterford 34 to 7 to open up a 48-14 lead at the half.

Christian Gayle caught three touchdowns for Waterford and also scored on a run.

Linden 10, Golden Valley 0 — The Cougars had two late drives stall in the red zone against the Lions.

Eighth-seeded Linden finally broke up a scoreless tie with a third-quarter field goal. The Lions added an insurance touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Golden Valley (6-5) hasn’t won a playoff game since 1999.

Central Section

Roosevelt 35, Chowchilla 28 — The No. 6 seeded Tribe (8-3) couldn’t overcome five turnovers in a first-round loss to the No. 11 Rough Riders.

Chowchilla battled back from a 27-8 halftime deficit to cut the game to one score. Tribe quarterback Davian Stephenson scored two rushing touchdowns and returned an interception for a touchdown.

Anthony Avila scored on a blocked punt for the Tribe.
