Dos Palos High defeats Santa Maria in Central Section playoffs, will face Exeter next week
The second-seeded Dos Palos High School football team jumped on underdogs Santa Maria quickly with three first-half touchdowns as the Broncos cruised to a 45-28 win in the second round of the Central Section Division IV playoffs on Thursday.
The Broncos (10-1) racked up over 200 yards on the ground with sophomore running back Andre Flores leading the way. Flores finished with 25 carries for 142 yards and three touchdowns. He scored on runs of 1, 49 and 11 yards.
Dos Palos quarterback Peyton Van Worth completed 13 of 17 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns. The senior connected with Hernan Hernandez on a 24-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to open up a 14-0 lead. He later found Sixto Ibarra on a 10-yard scoring strike that gave the Broncos a 28-7 lead at the half.
The Broncos defense came away with two interceptions and forced two fumbles.
Dos Palos will host No. 3 Exeter in the semifinals next Friday. Exeter defeated No. 11 Roosevelt 45-22 on Thursday night.
