Buhach Colony girls water polo falls to Stevenon in NorCal Division III championship game

The Buhach Colony High School girls water polo team came up short in their bid for a Northern California championship, falling 10-6 to Stevenson in the Division III championship at the University of the Pacific on Saturday.

The loss snapped a nine-game winning streak by the Thunder (28-6).

The fourth-seeded Pirates (25-7) scored five second-quarter goals to open up a 6-1 lead at the half. Stevenson never surrendered control the rest of the way.

Eliza Marquez led the Thunder with four goals. Joslyn Hoffman and Macie Drum both scored one goal each. Sydney Finn picked up two assists and Drum recorded four steals.

Buhach Colony goalie Abigail Perez finished with seven saves.

It was a historic season for the Thunder as they finished as co-Central California Conference champions and then won their first Sac-Joaquin Section championship before finishing as the NorCal Division III runner-up.

“The memories won’t be about winning or losing,” said Buhach Colony coach A.J. Abril. “It will be about the journey. That journey includes a school community that rallied behind our program and pushed us to compete at the highest level.”
