Football Roundup: Atwater enjoys Bloss Bowl blowout, El Capitan RB has record night

Seneca Ybarra II gave the Atwater High football team an explosive start to Bloss Bowl by returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown.

The Falcons were off and running to a 49-6 victory over their crosstown rival at Dave Honey Stadium.

Atwater improved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the CCC.

Ybarra also caught a touchdown from quarterback AJ Banks.

Jeremiah Delarosa, Isaias Cardenas and David Demelo all ran for touchdowns for the Falcons.

Buhach Colony dropped to 0-6 on the season, but still holds the advantage in the Bloss Bowl all-time series 12 to 7.

El Capitan 33, Los Banso 28 — Lorenzo Peters rushed for a school record 304 yards and three touchdowns in lifting the Gauchos to a win in the CCC opener for both schools.

Diego Ultreras led the El Capitan defense with three interceptions, including a pick-six. Ultreras now has eight interceptions on the season.

The Gauchos improved to 4-2 this season overall.

Los Banos senior receiver Yahir Zuniga finished with nine receptions for 143 yards and three touchdowns.

Los Banos dropped to 1-5 overall.

Johansen 34, Pacheco 13 — Aidan Pikas and Brennon Watkins each threw touchdown passes for the Panthers, who dropped to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Western Athletic Conference.

Pikas threw a a 65-yard touchdown pass to Arturo Anguiano, and Watkins connected with tight end Peyton Mosley for the other score.

Sonora 45, Hilmar 28 — Caden Bailey rushed for 167 yards and two touchdowns, including an 80-yard run for the Yellowjackets (3-3, 1-2 Trans-Valley League).

Hilmar quarterback Merek Ellerd threw for 123 yards and two touchdowns.

Stone Ridge Christian 35, Waterford 16 — The Knights won their fifth consecutive game and improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Southern League.

SRC quarterback Marcus Gray completed 11 of 18 passes for 200 yards and three touchdowns. Kayden Downey scored two touchdowns.

DJ O’Neil, Tristan Quiralte and Luke Agueda all added touchdowns for the Knights.

Denair 54, Le Grand 35 — Degan Butler rushed for five touchdowns and rushed for close to 300 yards to lead the Coyotes past the Bulldogs.

Le Grand quarterback Diego Martinez completed 18 of 25 for 289 and three touchdowns. All three TD passes went to receiver Miguel Moreno, who caught 10 balls for 170 yards.

Chowchilla 49, Riverdale 12 — Tribe quarterback Davian Stephenson scored two rushing touchdowns and added an 11-yard scoring strike to Khaled Escheik as Chowchilla improved to 4-1 this season.

Chowchilla running back Dwayne Hemphill added touchdown runs of 15 and 6 yards, and teammates Travis Selby and Benson Soares both scored rushing touchdowns.

Dos Palos 41, Avenal 7 — Broncos running back Andre Flores rushed for four touchdowns and topped 100 yards on the ground.

Dos Palos (3-3, 1-0 West Sierra League) quarterback Early Riley connected with Jacquez Jones for a 50-yard touchdown pass, and Anthony Del Rio returned an interception for a score.
