Atwater high school unveils its football stadium. Here’s a look
Buhach Colony High School in Atwater finally has a stadium on its own campus.
The Merced Union High School District held a ribbon-cutting event for the unveiling of the stadium on Thursday.
The facility will accommodate all field sports, including football, soccer, flag football, and track and field. Buhach Colony opened in 2001 and has been sharing a stadium with Atwater High.
Buhach Colony football coach Kevin Navarra could barely contain his excitement as he addressed the crowd, according to a story on the school district’s website.
“Wow, what a day,” he said. “We have finally arrived at our home place, our home field!”
The ceremony was attended by district officials, school administrators, local leaders and many coaches and athletes, according to Shawn Jansen, the MUHSD program manager of digital media.
Construction of the stadium started June 10, 2024.
El Capitan High School in Merced had a groundbreaking ceremony for its new football stadium scheduled for Dec. 1, but it had to be postponed.
All six MUHSD high schools will have their own on-campus stadiums when the 2026 football season kicks off.
