El Capitan girls basketball team completes perfect CCC season
The El Capitan High School girls basketball team is the perfect champion of the Central California Conference.
The Gauchos completed an undefeated CCC season at 10-0 on Thursday night with a 69-28 win over Los Banos. El Capitan led 39-9 at halftime.
Sophomore Alexis Valenzuela led El Capitan with 22 points and senior Avnoor Bains had 19. Senior Mady Dietz added 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals.
Atwater finished second in the CCC at 8-2.
Now that they’ve wrapped up the league title, the Gauchos can turn their attention to the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.
El Capitan is ranked fourth in the MaxPreps Sac-Joaquin Section Division II rankings, behind Antelope, Christian Brothers and Del Oro. Atwater is ranked eighth and Merced 13th.
The section will announce playoff brackets Saturday. The Modesto Bee’s Quinton Hamilton and The Sacramento Bee’s Joe Davidson will join the section’s Will DeBoard for a selection show at 1 p.m. at the section website, cifsjs.org.

- Atwater 8-2
- Merced 5-5
- Los Banos 5-5
- Golden Valley 1-8
- Buhach Colony 0-9
