El Capitan, Atwater baseball teams playing for first place in CCC
Update: El Capitan won Monday’s game 8-6.
Original story: It’s too early in the season to say this week’s Central California Conference series between El Capitan (3-0) and Atwater (3-0) will determine the league championship.
But it’ll certainly go a long way to deciding the title.
The three-game series begins Monday at 4 p.m. at Atwater High, continues Wednesday at El Capitan at 4 p.m. and concludes Friday night in Atwater at 7.
Each team comes off a CCC sweep.
El Capitan (6-3 overall) dominated Merced, winning three games by a combined score of 35-3. Junior Angel Rivera leads the Gauchos with a .478 batting average and has scored a team-high 13 runs. He has five doubles and two triples.
Atwater (8-2-1 overall) defeated Buhach Colony 15-5, 8-3 and 15-1 to sweep its crosstown rival. Junior Isaiah Navarro leads the Falcons in batting with a .417 average.
