Legendary Hilmar baseball coach Interbitzen honored with ceremony, plaque
A Hilmar High coaching legend was posthumously honored Thursday with a ceremony during which a commemorative plaque was unveiled.
Bill Inderbitzen, a longtime Hilmar teacher and coach, was honored during an event at the school’s baseball field prior to the Yellowjackets’ game against Orestimba. Fittingly, Hilmar won 11-1.
Interbitzen’s family, school leaders, community members, and some of his former players attended the event.
In addition to the commemorative plaque, a banner honoring the coach was raised in center field.
Inderbitzen taught at Hilmar High from 1967 to 1998 and was head varsity baseball coach from 1968 to 1991. He recorded 309 wins and won six championships as head coach.
He also served as the school’s athletic director for 25 years and was the Trans-Valley League commissioner for 18 years.
Inderbitzen died in 2024 at the age of 85, according to an obituary on legacy.com.
