Stone Ridge Christian High boys basketball team plans international trip

The Stone Ridge Christian High boys basketball team won’t be feasting on turkey, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving this year.

It’ll probably be more like pad Thai, tom yum and mango sticky rice.

The Knights boys basketball program, one of the most successful small-school teams in the Sac-Joaquin Section the past few years, has been invited to travel to Bangkok, Thailand, during Thanksgiving week.

The team will travel alongside basketball powerhouse St. Joseph High School to compete and participate in team practices and clinics from Nov 21-28, according to Stone Ridge Christian coach Tyler Rogers.

After travelling to Miami and Dallas in recent years, this will be the program’s first internation trip, Rogers said.

“This opportunity aligns with a larger focus within our program on providing meaningful experiences for our student-athletes beyond the court,” Rogers said in an email. “It also comes at an exciting time for our school, as we are in the process of gearing up to accept international students in the near future.”

Stone Ridge Christian’s boys team won back-to-back Division VI section championships in 2024 and 2025.

St. Joseph High of Santa Maria is one of the state’s top boys basketball programs. It competed in the American Classic by Top Flight tournament last year.

Stone Ridge Christian players also will participate in community service and cultural experiences during their time in Thailand, Rogers said.
