Le Grand softball dominant in Southern League, awaits section playoffs
The Le Grand High softball team completed a perfect Southern League season on Wednesday, defeating Mariposa 14-4. Now the Bulldogs are ready for the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.
Le Grand went 12-0 to run away with the SL title and is 16-7 overall and won its third consecutive SL championship.
The Bulldogs led by Ava Avila, who has put up impressive numbers this season. The junior has team-highs in batting percentage (.621), home runs (8) and RBIs (51). She has also hit 13 doubles and six triples.
She has also been dominant on the mound. Avila is 15-1 and has allowed just 10 earned runs all season for a 0.61 ERA with 196 strikeouts.
The Bulldogs are also dangerous on the base paths, with junior Elisa Angel (24 stolen bases) and senior Aaliyah Ceja (23) leading the way.
Stone Ridge Christian (9-2), which ends its season Thursday, will finish in second place in the SL.
Both teams will advance to the section tournament, which begins Monday with play-in games. The brackets will be announced Friday after 2 p.m.
The section champion and runner-up advance to the NorCal Regional tournament.
