Le Grand softball cruises into section final with another dominating performance

The Le Grand High softball team is perfect in the postseason, and that has the Bulldogs on the verge of a Sac-Joaquin Section Division 7 championship.

The top-seeded Bulldogs cruised past fourth-seeded Leroy Greene Academy of Sacramento 15-0 in five innings in the semifinals on Tuesday.

Le Grand will face second-seeded Elliot Christian of Lodi at 10 a.m. Saturday with the section title on the line.

The Bulldogs jumped out in front of Leroy Green Academy early, scoring two runs in the first inning, seven in the second and six in the third.

Junior Aaliyah Ceja sparked the offense with five RBIs. Senior Makayla Leyva and junior Ava Avila cach had three RBIs.

Avila pitched five perfect innings for the Bulldogs, striking out seven. The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

The shutout win came after Le Grand (18-7) defeated eighth-seeded Rio Vista in the quarterfinals 14-0. Le Grand had a bye in the first round.

Elliot Christian defeated sixth-seeded Golden Sierra 13-1 in the semifinals to reach the championship game. The Eagles are 11-3 and won the Mountain Valley League with a 6-0 record.

Hilmar falls in semifinals

Fifth-seeded Hilmar lost in its Division 6 semifinal to top-seeded Amador 7-3. The Yellowjackets finished the season 18-10.
