Le Grand softball reaches NorCal title game with 5-1 win over Durham

The Le Grand High School softball team will play for a CIF Northern California regional championship.

The second-seeded Bulldogs defeated third-seeded Durham of Chico 5-1 on Thursday to earn a trip to the NorCal Division 5 championship game.

The Bulldogs will play fourth-seeded Moreau Catholic of Hayward at home on Saturday at 4 p.m. for the title.

Against Durham, Le Grand scored two runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead. Durham scored its only run in the top of the seventh inning.

Junior pitcher Ava Avila was outstanding again, limiting Durham to four hits. She struck out six.

The Bulldogs improved to 21-7 on the season.

Moreau Catholic upset top-seeded Notre Dame 7-3 on Thursday. The Mariners are 17-12; they finished in second place in the Mission Valley League.
