Le Grand softball team earns big honor after remarkable season
The Le Grand High softball team’s season is over, but the accolades are rolling in.
The Bulldogs, who claimed the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 7 championship and the CIF Northern California Division regional title, were named CalHiSports.com’s California Division 5 team of the year. CalHiSports.com names a “mythical” state champion because the CIF ends the season after the regional championships.
Le Grand, which finished the season with a 22-7 record, also won the Southern League championship with a 12-0 record.
The Bulldogs were the top seed in the section Division 7 tournament and cruised to the title, defeating Elliot Christian of Lodi 12-2 in the championship game.
They were seeded second in the NorCal regional tournament. Le Grand defeated fourth-seeded Moreau Catholic of Hayward 5-3 on Saturday in the championship game.
It’s the second time CalHiSports has named Le Grand as a softball team of the year. The last time was 1985.
