Atwater soccer remains unbeaten with win over Golden Valley
The Atwater High boys soccer team remained unbeaten with a 2-1 win over Golden Valley on Thursday afternoon at Falcon Field.
Christian Olguin scored a goal and assisted on Christian Fuentes’ goal for the Falcons (17-0-3, 7-0-2 Central California Conference). Luiz Lopez assisted on Olguin’s goal.
The Cougars (8-3-4, 2-3-4) have played Atwater tough in both matches, tying the Falcons 3-3 in their first match on Sept. 24.
Thomas Rowan scored Golden Valley’s goal Thursday, and goalie Ze Thao stopped seven shots.
Pitman 2, Merced 1 at Merced – Jesus Nunez and Raymon Contreras both scored for the Pride as they knocked off the Bears. Alfred Flores scored Merced’s goal.
Le Grand 5, Ripon Christian 0 at Ripon – Omar Ramirez scored twice and Andres Lua added a goal and two assists as the Bulldogs (6-2 Southern League) rolled past the Knights (2-6).
Volleyball
Ripon Christian 3, Le Grand 0 at Ripon – Alyssa Bueno recorded 15 assists and Katie Farnsworth added 20 digs for the Bulldogs in a 25-8, 25-20, 25-14 loss.
Dos Palos 3, Avenal 0 at Dos Palos – Grace Schofield racked up 30 assists and six aces as the Broncos (11-7-1, 2-0 West Sierra League) defeated Avenal 25-8, 25-16, 25-12. Makenna Pierce led the offense with 15 kills.
Boys Water Polo
Turlock 14, Atwater 5 at Turlock – Luke van Warmerdam led the Falcons defense with seven steals and goalie Vince Baraldi had eight saves in the loss.
Merced 10, Sonora 8 at Merced – Daniel Miller and Abraham Santana each scored three goals and Ethan Eagleton added a goal and 10 steals for the Bears (15-1).
Girls Water Polo
El Capitan 18, Pacheco 5 at Merced – Alexandria Jasso scored five goals and Hope Stokes added two goals, two assists and three steals as the Gauchos improved to 8-5 overall and 3-0 in the Western Athletic Conference.
Girls Golf
El Capitan 155, Ceres 164 at Modesto – Salina Carbaugh (35) and Lauren Gudgel (38) paced the Gauchos as they remained unbeaten in the WAC at 10-0.
Atwater 269, Merced 313 at Atwater – Payton Jones led the way for the Falcons with a 47 as they evened up their record in the CCC at 4-4.
