Buhach Colony, El Capitan win golf titles

After the scores were added for the Buhach Colony and Turlock High School girls golf teams at Wednesday’s Central California Conference Championships, the Thunder and Bulldogs were tied.

The tiebreaker went to the sixth player’s score, and a 114 by Turlock’s Sarah Musselman bested a 138 by Buhach Colony’s Caitlyn Garcia to give the Bulldogs the tournament title at Turlock Golf & Country Club.

Turlock and Buhach Colony earned a co-CCC championship to give the Thunder its first CCC title. The Bulldogs have earned at least a share in 12 consecutive championships.

Buhach Colony was led by Maddie Freitas, who finished with a 93. Tianna Lee (94) and Sabrina Thao (97) also turned in solid rounds.

Preethi Singh finished with an 88 for Turlock’s top score.

Pitman’s Taylor Beckwith (78) won the individual title.

Advancing as individuals to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I South Tournament at Creekside in Modesto are Beckwith, Atwater’s Emma Reyes, Ashleigh Esau and Nicole McMillin and Golden Valley’s Michaela McNeill and Hannah Boelter.

Gauchos win WAC championship – The El Capitan girls golf team finished a perfect run through the Western Athletic Conference by winning the league tournament at Diablo Grande in Patterson.

Salina Carbaugh paced the Gauchos with a 95. Marcelina Mariano (105) and Lauren Miller (110) also had solid rounds.

Central Valley’s Janita Vongphoumy won the individual title with an 83. Los Banos’ Morgan Pimentel and Patterson’s Tatianna Tafoya tied for second at 94.

Livingston finished second to join El Capitan at the Division IV tournament on Monday at Sierra View in Roseville. The Wolves were led by Lexi Gonzalez’s 98 and Annie Winton’s 109.

Vongphoumy, Pimentel, Tafoya, Chelsea Gregory of Patterson and Jasmine Yruegas and Kaylin Lambert of Pacheco advanced to the D-IV tournament as individuals.

Boys soccer

Golden Valley 3, Buhach Colony 0 in Merced – Hann Osborne, Alex Garcia and Sergio Valencia scored as the Cougars (9-4-6, 3-4-5 CCC) moved a step closer to locking up one of the league’s four playoff spots.

Volleyball

Le Grand 3, Waterford 1 in Le Grand – Katie Farnsworth (11 kills, 29 digs) and Arisbeth Ceja (10 kills) paced the Bulldogs (8-5, 7-3 Southern League) in a 13-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-18 home win.

Girls water polo

Golden Valley 13, Buhach Colony 5 in Merced – Marissa Wyan scored six goals while Anna Nuefeld had three goals, three assists and six steals to help keep the Cougars (17-10, 7-1) atop the CCC standings.

El Capitan 13, Ceres 5 in Ceres – Hope Stokes scored four goals and had three steals, and Amanda Wade made six saves as the Gauchos moved closer to another undefeated WAC campaign.

Boys water polo

Merced 14, Pitman 8 in Turlock – Abraham Santana scored five goals, while Ethan Eagleton and Sam Kuykendall had three each as the Bears (18-1, 8-0 CCC) clinched at least a share of the league title with two games to play.

Atwater 9, Turlock 8 in Atwater – Connor Norton scored six goals and had five steals, and Vince Baraldi made 10 saves in an upset of the Bulldogs.

Golden Valley 11, Buhach Colony 7 in Merced – Angus McLeod (five goals), Ben Kaler (three) and Tommy Hamilton (three) paced the Cougars in a home win.
