Hilmar, Stone Ridge Christian open NorCal volleyball playoffs Tuesday
The Stone Ridge Christian and Hilmar High School volleyball teams will hit the road Tuesday for the first round of the CIF Northern California playoffs.
Both teams will have long trips. Hilmar (38-9) was seeded eighth in Division IV and will open against top-seeded Notre Dame (32-6) in Belmont. The Tigers won the Central Coast Section championship.
Stone Ridge Christian (25-10) is the No. 5 seed in Division VI and will make the 274-mile trip to Redding to face No. 4 Liberty Christian (20-7-1). The Patriots won the Northern Section title. This is the first year the CIF has held state playoffs for Division VI.
The Knights will try to rebound after losing to Turlock Christian 3-1 in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI final Friday. It’s the second year in a row Stone Ridge lost to the Eagles in the section final.
Hilmar also is trying to rebound after losing to Sonora in the Division IV championship for the second consecutive year. Last year, the Yellowjackets regrouped in the NorCal playoffs to sweep Justin-Siena of Napa 3-0 in the first round before falling to No. 1 seed Menlo 3-0.
