Golden Valley’s Thissen gets basketball win No. 300

The Golden Valley High School girls basketball team defeated Schurr of Montebello 57-46 on Tuesday afternoon to give coach Matt Thissen career win No. 300.

The Cougars (10-3) improved to 2-1 in the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic.

“I’ve spent a long time coaching,” Thissen said. “It’s good to get it out of the way. It’s not like we were focusing on it. The girls didn’t even know about it. It just means I’ve been coaching a long time and I’ve had some good players and good assistants.”

Stephanie Moore led the Cougars with 26 points. Abbee Croninger and Naomi Peterson each scored 10 points.

“We played better in the second half,” Thissen said. “The team we played wasn’t very tall, but they were quick and they shot the three ball extremely well. It took us a half to adjust to their style of play.”
