Bidwal records triple double in OT win for Buhach Colony

Jaswinder Bidwal came off the bench to record a triple double to help Buhach Colony outlast Atwater 55-51 in overtime in boys basketball Friday night.

The Thunder senior finished with 24 points, 15 rebounds and 10 steals.

“Anytime you bring somebody in off the bench, it takes a certain mind-set to perform,” said Buhach Colony coach John Bliss, whose team improved to 9-13 overall and 3-2 in the Central California Conference. “He’s able to do that.”

Bidwal helped send the game to overtime with a deep three-pointer to tie the score 46-46 with six seconds left in regulation. Bidwal then came up with a steal to prevent Atwater (9-12, 1-4) from attempting a potential game-winning shot.

Bidwal then started the overtime period with a three-pointer.

Atwater’s Juan Walle (19 points) answered with a three-point play to tie the score 49-49.

After Atwater scored again, Buhach Colony’s Andrew Morris scored to tie it at 51-51. Morris finished with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Andrew Bertuccio scored only one point, but it was a big one. The Buhach Colony junior was fouled after pulling down a defensive rebound with 36 seconds left. Bertuccio made 1 of 2 free throws to give the Thunder a 52-51 lead.

Bidwal and Kory Woods helped ice the game at the free-throw line.

“This is going to help us,” Bliss said. “It’s going to give us confidence for next round. The kids are pretty excited about the outcome. I was really happy with the effort. Our defensive pressure in second half forced a lot of turnovers.”

Jake Walejko had 14 points for Buhach Colony, which opens the second round of CCC play Wednesday at Merced.

Reggie Ricks had 11 points and Jesus Garca 10 for Atwater.

Waterford 50, Le Grand 45 in Waterford – The Bulldogs stalled out of the gate, scoring just three points in the first quarter and dropped to 2-4 in the Southern League. Fernando Aguilar led Le Grand with 16 points and Beto Marquez scored 15.
