Golden Valley sweeps Andreessen Classic track meet
The Golden Valley High School boys and girls swept the team titles at the eighth annual Dean Andreessen Track & Field Classic on Saturday at Veterans Stadium.
The Cougars boys were led by Nick Lemas, who won the 110-meter hurdles (15.71 seconds) and pole vault (11 feet). Lemas also teamed with Elijah Merino, Thomas Rowan and Alexander Salas to win the 4x400-meter relay in 3 minutes, 39.34 seconds.
Golden Valley’s Guillermo Rivas (3,200 meters) and Brandon Reyes (300-meter hurdles) also won their events.
On the girls side, Golden Valley’s Ruby Fregooso tied Livingston’s Jazmin Becerra for first place in the high jump at 4-8.
Double winners for the boys included Merced’s Ashanti McFarland (100 and 200 meters) and Daniel Ambriz (800 and 1,600 meters).
Merced’s Angelena Williams won four events: the 100 and 200 meters, 100-meter hurdles and long jump. Teammate Ciara Colon won the 1,600 and 3,200 meters.
Baseball
El Capitan 1, Liberty Ranch 0 in Galt – Sai Davuluri threw a two-hitter and struck out nine to help the Gauchos improve to 2-0. Davuluri and Braiden Ward had two hits each.
