El Capitan, Buhach, Golden Valley baseball win big

El Capitan bumped up its game against Central Valley to Thursday afternoon hoping to avoiding Friday’s forecasted downpour.

The shorter rest didn’t seem to bother Sai Davuluri.

The Gauchos ace was dealing on the road, tossing a complete-game shutout in a 9-0 victory over Central Valley. Davuluri allowed three hits, walked none and struck out a career-high 15.

The junior had plenty of run support.

Braiden Ward led the onslaught, going 3 for 4 with a double, triple, three runs and three RBIs. Davuluri helped his own cause, picking up two hits and two RBIs. Samuel Mora also finished with two RBIs as El Capitan (14-6, 7-1 Western Athletic Conference) stayed atop the league standings.

Buhach Colony 5, Pitman 2 in Atwater – The Thunder jumped on the Pride for four first-inning runs with two outs for the second consecutive game.

Christian Witt, Ubaldo Romo and Ruben Garcia all hit run-scoring singles in the first inning. Nick Singer pitched five innings for the win, with Romo securing a two-inning save.

Turlock 3, Merced 1 in Turlock – Bears starter Trevor Phillips was the tough-luck loser, pitching six innings and surrendering one earned run on four hits against the Bulldogs (12-8, 8-0 CCC). Jon Temple drove in the winning run with a two-run triple in the sixth inning for Turlock.

Landon Curtis went the distance for the Bulldogs, giving up one run on three hits.

Golden Valley 9, Atwater 2 in Atwater – Brady Mello allowed two runs on four hits while striking out eight to help the Cougars win back-to-back games for the first time this season.

Caleb Lopez provided all the offense GV (3-16, 2-6) needed, going 2 for 3 and driving in four runs.
