Turlock baseball defeats Merced to complete CCC sweep
Turlock High School scored nine runs in the final three innings to defeat host Merced 10-4 on Saturday and finish a three-game baseball sweep of the Bears.
Blaine Weber went the distance for the win after giving up three runs in the first inning.
Merced (11-10, 3-6 Central California Conference) connected on five consecutive hits to start the bottom of the first against Weber. Josh May led off with a double, and Jacob Alarcon followed with a bunt single to put runners on the corners. Tanner Pellissier, Bryce West and Trevor Phillips followed with run-scoring singles to give the Bears a 3-0 lead.
May, Merced’s starter, allowed one run through four innings, but the offense of the Bulldogs (13-8, 9-0) came alive late.
A two-out error opened the door for Turlock in the fifth inning. The extra out gave Peyton Dunseth an opportunity to hit, and he doubled down the left-field line to score two runs and tie the score 3-3. Chris Steeley followed with another double down the left-field line to plate Dunseth and give Turlock a 4-3 lead.
Tate Soderstrom highlighted a three-run sixth with a two-run double to help Turlock extend its lead to 7-3.
Brandon Booz, who went 4 for 5, singled in two runs during a three-run rally in the seventh to give the Bulldogs a 10-3 lead. Turlock pounded 14 hits, including three each from Soderstrom and Steeley.
Merced added a run in the seventh as May singled and scored on Phillips’ groundout. Phillips and May had three hits each.
Golden Valley 4, Atwater 0 in Merced – Wyatt Pearson pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out 11 as the Cougars (4-16, 3-6 CCC) finished a three-game sweep of the Falcons (3-18, 0-9).
Nick Romero led the Cougars’ offense, going 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI. Mike Martinez had two hits and knocked in a run for Golden Valley.
Friday
Pitman 13, Buhach Colony 8 in Turlock – The Pride (13-8, 5-4 CCC) erased a four-run deficit with five runs in the third and six runs in the fourth to salvage the finale of the three-game series.
Logan Coe went 3 for 5 with three RBIs for the Thunder (10-11, 7-2). Nick Singer had two hits, two runs and three RBIs.
