Big first inning propels Buhach Colony past Atwater
Fast starts have become a trend for the Buhach Colony High baseball team as they surge toward the playoffs.
The Thunder continued their big first innings with seven runs in the opening frame on Thursday afternoon as Buhach Colony defeated Atwater 12-2 in a game that was stopped after six innings because of the 10-run mercy rule at Memorial Ballpark.
The Thunder (12-11 overall, 9-2 Central California Conference) have scored 22 runs in the first inning in their last six games and have won five of them to pull even with Turlock atop the CCC standings. The Bulldogs lost to Pitman 7-2 on Thursday.
Buhach Colony used the long ball against Atwater (0-11 CCC) with Mike Casso and Logan Coe each hitting home runs. Casso finished with three hits, three runs scored and three RBIs.
Coe and Ruben Garcia each finished with two hits and Garcia and Kory Woods both drove in a pair of runs.
Nick Singer went the distance for the Thunder on the mound, giving up just two runs on four hits.
Atwater and Buhach Colony will finish their three-game series on Friday at Buhach Colony at 4 p.m.
