Atwater softball team streaks into playoffs

The Atwater High School softball team is streaking into the playoffs.

The Falcons defeated Buhach Colony 10-3 on Wednesday night at Osborne Park in Atwater for their ninth consecutive win.

Cheyenne Mahy led Atwater (16-6, 12-3 Central California Conference) with a pair of doubles and three RBIs. She also pitched seven innings, recording nine strikeouts to pick up the win.

Melanie Valencia added two hits and scored three times for Atwater. Teammate Brittany Massa also collected two hits, including a triple, to go along with two runs and two RBIs.

“We’re really happy,” said Atwater coach Robert Santistevan. “The girls are excited. We don’t have very many injuries. We have all weekend to heal up. We’re looking good.”

Baseball

Mariposa 4, Orestimba 2 in Mariposa – Jake Williams hit a walk-off, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Grizzlies (14-6, 11-3 Southern League) to a thrilling win on Wednesday. Mariposa finished second in the SL.

Mariposa softball finishes undefeated in SL

The Grizzlies will enter the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs as the top seed from the Southern League after finishing with a 14-0 record.

Mariposa has outscored its opponents 42-0 in the last four games behind pitchers Violet Matlock and Leah Lafata.

All-WAC Golf

El Capitan’s Christopher Giardina was named the Western Athletic Conference boys golf MVP.

The all-WAC first team is comprised of Gary Condit (Ceres), Jacob Haumea (Los Banos), Jayden Panyanouvong (Ceres), Anthony Lizdas (El Capitan) and Jimmy Georgiou (Los Banos).

The second team includes: Patterson’s James Perez, El Capitan’s Jake Leonardo, Los Banos’ Estevan Medina, Ceres’ Jake Nevarez and Livingston’s Damian Albores.

All-WAC Boys Volleyball

After leading the Stone Ridge Christian boys volleyball team to a WAC championship, junior outside hitter Jonathan Collazo was named the conference MVP by the conference coaches.

Patterson senior Edrian Zulueta was named the MVP setter and Stone Ridge Christian’s Ken Shaw was named Coach of the Year.

The all-WAC first team selections were Austin Crain (Ceres), Avery Dehoyos (Patterson), Cristian Garcia (Ceres), Davis Greenwood (Stone Ridge Christian), Jarod Latona (El Capitan), Jonathen Pimental (Patterson) and Jacob Vierra (El Capitan).

The second team members were Ger Chang (El Capitan), Hugo Gonzalez (Patterson), Justin Jones (Stone Ridge Christian), Wyatt Ogden (Ceres), Adrian Pacheco (Livingston) and Mario Valtierra (Pacheco).
