Miss high school football? Here’s your chance to see Merced County’s best in action
It’s been a while since the high school football season ended, but Merced County fans will get a chance to watch some of the area’s best players in two all-star games this month.
The 3rd annual Merced County All-Star Football Classic will be played Saturday at Golden Valley High, featuring a girls flag football game at 5:30 p.m. and a boys 11-man game at 7:30 p.m.
The South 11-man football team features players from Merced, El Capitan, Golden Valley, Stone Ridge Christian and Los Banos, and will be coached by El Capitan’s Xavier Ramirez. The North will feature players from Atwater, Buhach Colony, Livingston, Delhi and Hilmar, and be coached by Hilmar’s Frank Marques.
The South girls flag football team will be coached by El Capitan’s Juan Valdovino; the North by Hilmar’s Anthony Leal.

50th Lions All-Star Football Game
A traditional all-star game has added a girls flag football all-star showcase this year. The 50th annual Lions International All-Star Football Game is scheduled for Saturday, June 20.
Merced County players will be playing for the South teams. The girls flag football game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m., with the boys game to follow. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at lionsallstarfootball.com.
