Football Roundup: Livingston storms back in second half to defeat Le Grand

Eduardo Mendoza scored three touchdowns in the second half as the Livingston High football team scored 36 consecutive points to erase a 15-point halftime deficit in a 42-27 win over Le Grand on Friday night.

“It was a big win,” Wolves coach Alex Gonzalez said. “It was good adversity for our team and we recuperated well. We have a young team and it was good to finally get a win and hopefully it will carry over.”

Le Grand’s running back Carlos Iniguez finished with three touchdown runs, including runs of 3 and 39 yards that staked the Bulldogs (1-2) to a 21-6 lead at intermission.

Livingston came out and dominated the second half.

“We kept the same game plan,” Gonzalez said. “Mistakes were hurting us and killing our tempo in the first half. We got a better tempo on offense in the second half. Eddie Avila had a good game for us, carrying the ball and our defense came out in the second half and helped us turn the game around.”

Mendoza scored on runs of 1, 2 and 1 yard and added a two-point conversion. Grayson Austin broke free for touchdown runs of 26 and 49 yards to help extend the Wolves lead to 42-21.

The start of the game was moved back to 8:30 p.m. because of the heat index.
