Buhach Colony storms past Golden Valley with big fourth quarter
Justin Stefani broke free for touchdown runs of 4 and 43 yards in the fourth quarter as Buhach Colony came back to defeat Golden Valley 41-19 on Friday night at Veterans Stadium.
The Cougars (0-9 overall, 0-4 Central California Conference) took a 19-17 lead at the half with help from two Desmone Borden touchdowns. Borden scored on a 29-yard pass from Armando Muzquiz in the first quarter. Borden added a 4-yard touchdown run to give Golden Valley a 19-11 lead with 36 seconds left in the second quarter.
Stephon Eastman gave the Thunder (4-5, 1-3) some momentum just before the half with a 36 yard touchdown run that pulled Buhach Colony to within 19-17 with 7 seconds left.
The Cougars were shut out in the second half.
Buhach Colony erupted for 24 points in the fourth quarter. Austin Ekizian followed Stefani’s two touchdowns with a 17-yard interception return for a score and Andre Mayfield scored on a 2-yard touchdown run.
▪ Pitman 20, Atwater 7, in Atwater – Frank Cocio found Nathaniel Gilmore for a long touchdown pass to pull the Falcons (2-7 overall, 1-3 CCC) even with Pitman late in the first half.
However, the Pride pulled away to improve to 7-1 and 3-1.
▪ Le Grand 21, Denair 12, at Le Grand – Carlos Iniguez scored on a 75-yard run, and Cristian Nava added a 47-yard run as the Bulldogs (7-2, 6-0 Southern League) defeated the Coyotes with big plays.
Le Grand took sole possession of first place with Mariposa’s loss to Ripon Christian.
▪ Stone Ridge Christian 63, Turlock Christian 0, at Atwater – The Knights have now scored 169 consecutive points without giving up a score over the past 3 1/2 games. Stone Ridge Christian improved to 7-2 with the win.
▪ Sierra Tollhouse 20, Chowchilla 19, at Tollhouse – Down a point on the road, the Redskins opted to go for two after a Danny Chavez fourth-quarter touchdown run and came up empty in their first North Sequoia League loss.
