Football Roundup: Turlock blows past BC in fourth quarter
The Buhach Colony football team is having trouble finishing games.
For the second straight week the Thunder found themselves in a close ball game in the second half. And for the second straight week their opponent pulled away down the stretch.
An Alex Andrade 90-yard kickoff return for a score brought Buhach Colony within seven points with 2:34 to play in the third quarter. Turlock scored 19 unanswered points over the game’s last 14 minutes to pull away for a 47-21 victory at Falcon Field on Friday night.
BC (2-5, 0-2 CCC) led one of the Central California Conference favorites 14-13 in the second quarter after a Andrew Morris touchdown pass to Edgar Olvera and an Andrade 46-yard TD run.
Turlock (5-1, 2-0 CCC) answered back behind its stars.
Danny Velasquez and Brandon Booz each scored a pair of touchdowns and quarterback Peyton Dunseth passed for a pair of scores while running for a third.
Le Grand 55, Waterford 26 in Le Grand – Rigo Mares and Beto Marquez had some magic working in the opening half against Waterford. The pair combined for touchdown passes of 3, 18 and 65 yards as the Bulldogs (1-6, 1-3 SL) picked up their first official win of the season.
Marquez passed for five touchdowns in the game, going 11 of 16 for 205 yards. Carlos Iniguez went over 100 yards for the first time in October with a pair of long touchdown runs in the second half and Eric Zaragoza sealed the victory with a fourth-quarter pick six.
Le Grand opened the season with a 54-21 win over Delta but had to forfeit the victory for using an ineligible player.
Pacheco 64, Ceres 57 in Ceres – Carlos Garcia capped a spectacular offensive evening with a two-yard plunge in the final seconds to give the Panthers a dramatic road victory over the Bulldogs.
Garcia rushed for a pair of scores and hauled in a 75-yard Aric Barton touchdown pass as the Panthers (4-4, 3-1 WAC) erased a 14-point, second-half deficit. Barton passed for five touchdowns in just his fourth varsity start, connecting with Alijah Siordia three times.
Washington Union 30, Chowchilla 12 in Chowchilla – The Redskins (5-2, 1-1 NSL) jumped out to a 12-0 lead behind touchdown runs from Anthony Stewart and Danny Chavez, but surrendered 30 unanswered points in their first North Sequoia League loss.
Stewart carried 17 times for a team-high 86 yards in the loss.
Stone Ridge Chr. 49, Riverbank 0 in Atwater – Shane Casillas scored on runs of 67, 40 and caught a 24-yard TD catch while Jonathan Collazo and Mark Hooker each added a pair of scores to help the Knights keep rolling.
The win improved Stone Ridge to 6-1 on the season and marked its fifth straight shutout.
Central Valley 42, Livingston 14 in Ceres – Eddie Avila scored a 21-yard, second-quarter touchdown, but the Wolves (1-7, 0-4 WAC) had no answer for CV’s Moses Ghiorso (four touchdowns).
