Dos Palos clinches share of West Sierra League football title

Andrew Walker ran wild as Dos Palos High School clinched a share of the West Sierra League football championship with a 28-14 win over Coalinga on Friday night at Bill Hume Stadium.

Walker carried the ball 29 times for 183 yards and four touchdowns as the Broncos won their fourth consecutive game to improve to 5-4 overall and 4-0 in the WSL. Walker scored all four of Dos Palos’ touchdowns on runs of nine, four, 22 and 23 yards.

Chowchilla 49, Sierra 7 in Chowchilla – Anthony Stewart rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries to help the Redskins improve to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the North Sequioa League. Stewart broke free for touchdown runs of 51 and 47 yards. Chowchilla rushed for 364 yards.

Pitman 28, Atwater 6 in Turlock – Titus Schammel scored two touchdowns as the Pride improved to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the Central California Conference. Quarterback Frank Cocio scored for the Falcons (1-8, 0-4) on a sneak.

Patterson 69, Livingston 6 in Livingston – Michael Lawson returned the opening kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown, and the Tigers (9-0, 5-0 Western Athletic Conference) were off and running. Alec Espos and Jamal Broussard each scored two touchdowns for Patterson.

Eddie Avila scored for the Wolves (1-9, 0-6) on a four-yard run in the first quarter.

Central Valley 42, Los Banos 21 in Ceres – Moses Ghiorso scored five touchdowns to lead the Hawks (6-3, 4-1 WAC) past the Tigers. Ghiorso carried 10 times for 209 yards and four scores. He also had a touchdown catch.

Adam Herrera threw for 230 yards and a touchdown and had 143 rushing yards and two scores for the Tigers (6-3, 3-2 WAC).

Ceres 44, El Capitan 35 in Merced – Chris Lubinsky threw for 368 yards and three touchdowns to help the Bulldogs (3-6, 2-3 WAC) knock off the Gauchos (2-7, 1-4). Austin Stiles had three touchdown catches and finished with nine receptions for 165 yards.

Gustine 48, Delhi 21 in Delhi – Brandon Labry rushed for 217 yards and three touchdowns as the Redskins set up a showdown this Friday against Orestimba in a battle of 9-0 teams for the Southern League championship. Both teams are 6-0 in league.

Gustine quarterback Sebastian Figueroa had a 55-yard touchdown run and threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to J.D. Laupua.

Le Grand 46, Denair 40 in Denair – Beto Marquez threw for three touchdowns, including two to Jose Renteria, to lift the Bulldogs (2-7, 2-4 SL) over the Coyotes (2-7, 1-5). The Bulldogs’ defense preserved the win late when Julian Dian forced a fumble and Bobby Elias recovered. Le Grand then ran out the clock.

Ripon Christian 27, Mariposa 8 in Mariposa – Travis Zuidervaart threw for two touchdowns and ran for another for the Knights (7-2, 4-2 SL).

Jake Williams caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Jake Mayberry for the Grizzlies (4-4, 3-3), who must win at Le Grand on Friday to reach the playoffs.

Stone Ridge Christian 69, Turlock Christian 0 in Hilmar – The Knights (8-1, 4-0 Central California Athletic Alliance) extended their shutout streak to seven consecutive games with a win over the Eagles (1-8, 0-5).

Shane Casillas and Jonathan Collazo each scored three touchdowns for the Knights.
