GALT Adam Herrera confidently jogged back out onto the field.

The Los Banos offense had been almost unstoppable in the second half, scoring on four of its first five possessions, with the senior quarterback at the forefront of the attack. Herrera had a hand in all six of the Tigers’ touchdowns at Erv Hatzenbuhler Field and number seven would propel LB into the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV title game.

It wasn’t meant to be. Herrera marched the Tigers down to the Liberty Ranch 40-yard line with 40 seconds to play, but the final pass of his high school career was intercepted by Ibn Frazier to seal the Hawks’ 44-42 victory.

Liberty Ranch will play Sierra in the championship game on Saturday at a site yet to be determined.

“I thought we were winning the game as soon as we got back on the field,” Herrera said. “I saw Anthony (Machado) beat his man right away off of the line. The safety just made a good play coming over the top.
