Fire burns structure behind downtown Merced lounge

A fire destroyed a storage area behind a downtown Merced restaurant Friday but caused no injuries or damage to the main part of the building.

The fire broke out just before 4:30 p.m. behind Reinero’s Trophy Room in the 600 block of Main Street.

“It just burned on the exterior. The guys made a good, aggressive attack and were able to stop it from extending into the interior,” Fire Battalion Chief Jeremy Franklin said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
