Merced County 'throws switch' on solar project to save money
The Merced County Board of Supervisors "flipped the switch" on a solar panel project at the Merced County Administration building on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, that's expected to save $19 million over 30 years, according to officials. Elected officials, county employees and others gathered for a ceremony to celebrate it. The county contracted with the formerly named Opterra Energy Services for $11.7 million, according to Sun-Star archives. The Oakland-based company changed its name to ENGIE Services U.S. on Jan. 22, according to company representatives.
