Motorcyclist killed in solo accident in Merced

One person was killed Monday in a solo motorcycle accident in Merced, the Police Department reported.

Few details were immediately available.

Police responded to the accident scene just before 2 p.m. near El Capitan High School, Lt. Jay Struble said. The rider’s identity has not been released, pending notification of his family. He was described by police as a man believed to be in his mid-to late 20s. The make and model of the of the motorcycle also was not immediately available.

Investigators said the rider was heading west in the first block of East Bellevue Road when the bike left the roadway and struck a tree.

The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. Police still were investigating the cause of the crash Monday afternoon.
