In the Tri-Valley, people are tipping their glasses to the Livermore Valley Wine Month, a time of drinks deals, reserve tastings, vineyard parties and even a street festival.

The Livermore Valley bills itself as "California's Most Welcoming World Class Wine Region," with roughly three dozen wineries smushing grapes in the region’s Mediterranean climate. Throughout the month of May, it is even more welcoming, with scores of oeno-happenings occurring around the valley.

Aside from events, many wineries and businesses are offering discounts and special offers for Wine Month. There are two-for-one tastings at Cuda Ridge Wines, for instance, food pairings at Del Valle Winery and, on May 24, an all-you-can-eat, sunset seafood boil at Wood Family Vineyards ($75-$85).

The full schedule is posted on the website of the Livermore Valley Wine Community (lvwine.org). Some events require reservations. Here’s a sampling of what’s happening this month:

  • Mother’s Day Weekend, May 8-10: Local wineries will host brunches, picnics on their lawn, special tastings, live music and food pairings in bucolic vineyard settings.
  • Downtown Street Fest, May 16-17: Downtown Livermore sees the return of a long-running festival that features outdoor dining, music, shopping and the liberal dispensing of craft beer and wine. Eight wineries will pour at two tasting lounges, with a free general admission and drink tickets for sale at the event.
  • Boutique Barrels of Livermore, May 23: Four of the valley’s small-lot producers will host an intimate tasting experience at the Pruett Estate Winery, with tastings that feature both "beloved classics" and "happy accidents" ($40).
  • Memorial Appreciation Day, May 24: Concannon Vineyard is launching a new and free annual event that pays tribute to local first responders. It takes place on a historic estate lawn and features fire trucks, a helicopter landing, food vendors and wines by the glass and bottle.
  • Cab Franc-A-Palooza, May 31: The reputed "most diverse Cab Franc festival in the world" hosts its annual bash at the Purple Orchid Resort, with more than 100 wines from California and overseas available to sample ($89).
