Six flavors of Straus ice cream recalled after possible ‘foreign metal' contamination

Straus Family Creamery has recalled select production runs of six Organic Super Premium Ice Cream flavors due to the potential presence of foreign metal, the Bay Area ice cream maker said Thursday.

The voluntary recall affects specific pint and quart containers distributed to retailers in 17 states beginning May 4, including in California, Texas, Florida, Illinois and Washington.

No injuries have been reported, according to the company.

The affected products include the following flavors, all with "best by" dates in December of this year:

-Vanilla Bean pint containers with best by dates of Dec. 23 and Dec. 28

-Strawberry quart containers with a best by date of Dec. 24

-Strawberry pint containers with a best by date of Dec. 25

-Cookie Dough pint containers with a best by date of Dec. 26

-Dutch Chocolate quart containers with a best by date of Dec. 27

-Mint Chip pint containers with a best by date of Dec. 30

The creamery is advising customers to check the dates printed in black on the outside bottom of the container. Consumers seeking support or any additional information are asked to contact the creamery at 707-776-2887.

Customers who purchased recalled products can request a replacement voucher through the company's website.

Based in Northern California, Straus Family Creamery was founded in 1994 and has produced organic dairy products supplied by Marin and Sonoma County dairy farms.
