Netflix Quietly Renewed 5 Popular Shows This Week
Netflix's annual Netflix Upfront panel took place this week, and the streaming giant announced several exciting renewals that fans had been looking forward to.
The Upfronts take place every year in New York City, and it's historically been the place where legacy broadcast networks announce their upcoming slate of projects in the fall. Over the past few years, however, Netflix has used the event as an opportunity to promote its own material.
As described by What's On Netflix, the Upfronts are an opportunity for advertising companies to buy "commercial space" on streaming platforms, which is why Netflix recently introduced an ad-supported tier at a lower subscription price. The panel is used to "prove to marketing agencies that their brands belong attached to the world's biggest shows."
And this year, Netflix used the opportunity to renew some of its most popular projects-ranging from breakout new shows to long-running series that have spent years on the platform.
The first major show to receive a renewal was Big Mistakes, the brand-new comedy from Dan Levy and Rachel Sennott. The show's first season was only released a month ago, but viewership data shows that it already has a dedicated fan base who are itching for more. The show ended on a big cliffhanger, so fans had eagerly been awaiting this renewal announcement.
Netflix also confirmed that Love is Blind will be coming back for its eleventh season-to the surprise of nobody. The dating show has been one of Netflix's biggest contenders in the reality television space, and this time it will be heading to New England with hosts Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey.
My Life With the Walter Boys has been another surprise hit for Netflix's younger audience, and the coming-of-age drama has officially been greenlit for a fourth season. Nikki Rodriguez, Noah LaLonde, and Ashby Gentry are all expected to return.
Two exciting renewals for sports fans: Quarterback and Running Point will both be getting third seasons. The former is an NFL docuseries that focuses on different subjects each season; this time around, it's Jayden Daniels, Cam Ward, Baker Mayfield & Joe Flacco who are taking the spotlight.
Running Point has been one of Netflix's most-watched new shows over the past few years, starring Kate Hudson as a party girl-turned-businesswoman who is put in charge of her family's basketball team. Season 3 is expected to enter production later this year in Los Angeles.
