Father's Day essay contest part of Old Fisherman's Wharf activities
MONTEREY – Families will have opportunities to celebrate Father's Day with activities, dining and an essay contest near downtown Monterey.
Old Fisherman's Wharf will host its 2026 Father's Day celebration on Sunday, June 21. Organizers said the Wharf will feature festive decorations throughout the weekend, providing photo opportunities for families and visitors.
Families can also take part in activities available on the Wharf, including whale watching, fishing, shopping and dining. Restaurants and stores are expected to offer Father's Day specials and sale items.
In addition to the activities, Old Fisherman's Wharf is holding its "Dad's Favorite Story" essay contest, where participants are invited to share a memory about a story their father often told.
Entries are limited to 200 words and one submission per person. Essays must be emailed to info@montereywharf.com. The deadline for submissions is midnight Monday, June 22.
Three winners will be selected in a drawing and will receive Wharf Dollars certificates valued at $100, $50 and $25. The certificates can be used at businesses on Old Fisherman's Wharf.
Additional information about the contest is available on the Father's Day event page at MontereyWharf.com.
Businesses on the Wharf also offer gift certificates for whale watching excursions, fishing trips, sailing outings and glass-bottom boat tours.
Visitors can watch wildlife including sea otters, sea lions, dolphins and whales, or observe commercial and recreational fishing activity. The Wharf is also home to four whale-watching companies, two fishing charters, sailing excursions and glass-bottom boat tours operating in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
