Grandma Maine Coon Meets Her 'Grandkittens' for the First Time, and the Cuteness Is Overflowing
Dogs are known to be loyal protectors and have a maternal instinct over babies and smaller animals. While cats still carry the stereotype of being overly independent and aloof, felines also show care and empathy toward those they feel are vulnerable. Mother cats are naturally protective of their kittens, and this trait may go even further up the family tree.
Stormy the Maine Coon cat just became a grandmother again and she's already doting on her adorable grandkittens.

In the TikTok from @wildmane_mainecoons, Stormy was called into the room to meet her new grandkitties. This was the very first time the grandma was coming face-to-face with the newborn litter.
Stormy carefully approached the cat bed containing all the sleeping kittens. She looked proudly at her latest batch of grandkittens with love as each one was held up for her to get a closer look.
The newborn kittens were solid black and gray, still with their eyes closed and completely adorable.
The video revealed that Stormy is currently pregnant with her own litter and expecting to add to the feline family.
Followers fell in love with the cat family and the bond between Grandma Stormy and the little ones.
"They're all soooo cute!" one raved.
"This is the cutest video - I love them!!!" someone gushed.
"They are so beautiful," another remarked.
Do Cats Recognize Their Own Kin?
When mother cats are separated from their kittens for at least one month, they most likely will not recognize each other if reunited. Brief absences between cat family members, such as two siblings being separated due to a health issue, may result in temporary unfamiliarity. However, they usually can identify each other's scent over a period of time and remember their relationship.

Cat relatives that permanently live in separate homes will see each other as strangers if brought back together. They will most likely exhibit behavior like swatting, hissing, and being on guard until they have time to get acquainted.
Between her new grandkittens and her own litter on the way, Stormy is going to have her paws full for quite some time.
