Backstage Note: AEW Star and Former Champion Leaving Company for WWE Return

WWE is reportedly set to reunite with a fan favorite from the rival AEW promotion.

According to a report from Fightful Select (h/t F4WOnline.com), AEW star Big Bill, formerly known as Big Cass in WWE, is departing the company and returning to the WWE. The report noted that Big Bill's AEW contract expires over the next week.

In recent weeks, there has been increased speculation about Big Cass (real name William Morrissey) reuniting with former WWE teammate Enzo Amore (real name Eric Arndt). Last month, False Finish reported that Amore had been seen at the WWE Performance Center.

Following his release from the WWE in 2018, Morrissey later opened up about his struggles with alcohol addiction and depression. He entered rehab in 2020 and has been sober for six years.

After a one-year tenure with Impact Wrestling, Morrissey joined AEW in May 2022. Big Bill and Ricky Starks captured the AEW World Tag Team Championship on the Oct. 7, 2023, episode of Collision, holding the titles for 12 days. This was Bill's one championship reign in AEW.

Big Bill May Not Be the Only Wrestler Set for a WWE Return

Over the weekend, Fightful Select also reported (via Cultaholic) that Baron Corbin (real name Thomas Pestock) finished his time in Major League Wrestling and would soon return to the WWE.

Corbin joined WWE in 2012 and worked there for 12 years before departing in November 2024. In his first WWE stint, Corbin won the United States Championship, the NXT Tag Team Championship and the 2017 Money in the Bank ladder match.
