Tom Hardy to Return to 'MobLand' for Expected Season 3 After Production Controversy

Fences have been mended between Tom Hardy and MobLand showrunner, writer, and executive producer Jez Butterworth.

After reports of drama unfolding behind the scenes of Season 2, with Hardy's fate on the Paramount+ crime series left uncertain, Deadlinereports that Hardy and Butterworth recently met in London with executive producer David Glasser.

The meeting was productive and successful, with Hardy and Butterworth "coming to a great understanding about a path forward." Hardy will stay on for Season 3. News of the friction between Hardy and Butterworth came to light a month ago, with Butterworth taking issue with Hardy's habitual lateness, among other things.

While MobLand hasn't officially been renewed for a third season, there's already a writers' room hard at work even before the show's second-season premiere. Debuting its freshman season on Mar. 30, 2025, MobLand became an unprecedented hit for the streamer, racking up 2.2 million global viewers on its first day. It accumulated over 26 million viewers by the end of Season 1. It also skyrocketed to No. 2 on the platform.

Here's a synopsis of Season 1 for the uninitiated:

"Power is up for grabs as two warring crime families clash in a battle that threatens to topple empires. In the crossfire stands Harry Da Souza, a street-smart 'fixer' who knows too well where loyalties lie when opposing forces collide."

In addition to Hardy as Harry Da Souza, MobLand stars Pierce Brosnan as Conrad Harrigan, Paddy Considine as Kevin Harrigan, Joanne Froggatt as Jan Da Souza, Lara Pulver as Bella Harrigan, Anson Boon as Eddie Harrigan, Mandeep Dhillon as Seraphina Harrigan, Jasmine Jobson as Zosia, Geoff Bell as Richie Stevenson, Daniel Betts as Brendan Harrigan, Lisa Dwan as O'Hara Delaney, Emily Barber as Alice, and Helen Mirren as Maeve Harrigan.

Ronan Bennett serves as the series creator and executive produces alongside Guy Ritchie and Hardy. Ritchie was reportedly also involved in the mediation between Hardy and Butterworth.

MobLand Season 2 will premiere sometime this year on Paramount+.
