Art Hop kicks off another colorful year
A bedazzling display of art and culture took over West Main Street on Saturday, as the first Art Hop of 2015 was held in Merced.
Organizers said the event drew around 1,500 people, despite the lower temperatures.
Kimberly Zamora, who co-founded the Art Hop with Kevin Hammon, said the next event, scheduled for April 18, may feature an Earth Day theme. Zamora said she’s considering incorporating gardening into April’s Art Hop, which would be a first for the event. There may also be a fashion show with recycled goods turned into items of clothes, and an “art garden,” with plant material turned into art.
In addition, there will be a Michael Jackson-themed performance called “Remember the Time” and art made from recycled materials. Zamora said the plans are still preliminary.
This year marks Art Hop’s seventh year – and the first full year the art event will carry its nonprofit status. Zamora said the years have gone by relatively quickly, and the event has grown substantially. “People are really excited to be a part of the Art Hop,” Zamora said.
