Taco trucks in Merced serving up quick eats, big flavor on Main Street
A recent post on a Merced subreddit asked Redditors for recommendations on the best taco spot in Merced. The post generated more than a dozen replies.
“This a crazy question for the simple fact that there is way too many options and people’s taste very,” one Redditor replied.
On Tuesday afternoon, multiple taco trucks parked in a lot in the 800 block of West Main Street served up various dishes to hungry customers. Of the spots mentioned in the various replies to the Reddit post, Taquizas Gracian was one that received multiple mentions.
According to the truck’s menu, Taquizas Grecian offers a variety of dishes, including tacos, burritos, quesadillas, Barria soup, barria egg rolls, nachos fries and breakfast options.
A worker at the taco truck said some of the more popular items on the menu include the tacos, burritos and the truck’s quesvirrias as well as the agua frescas. A local barber who identified himself as Evh, 45, of Merced, said he frequents the taco truck multiple times a week and ordered what he said is his go-to order from the Taquizas Grecian truck–two tacos with extra onions.
“I frequent this specific spot because I just get two tacos and they go like beyond,” said Evh. “They’ll put like hella lettuce, hella cilantro and salsa. They do the works, and they give me something to drink, pretty much, to wash things down.”
Tacos La Doña was set up near the back of the parking lot. Offering items such as tacos, burritos, torts, quesadillas and a choice of meats including carne asada beef steak, pork and chicken. The truck also has a veggie burrito option for those who wish to skip the meat.
Local barber and customer Robert Fisher-Yarbrough, 38, of Planada, stopped by the truck Tuesday to order a vegetarian burrito.
“There’s not a lot of spots that do it and this place is pretty cheap,” Fisher-Yarbrough said. “I’m vegan, so that’s why I come here.”
He said he frequents the taco truck about once a week and that the vegetarian burrito is his go-to order.
At the opposite end of the parking lot, Merced resident Ashwin Thomas, 35, ordered tacos from the Tacos Las Rinatas truck. Listed on the truck’s menu are items such as tacos, quesadillas, ropes, asada fries, nachos, tortas and various beverages.
“I think my normal order here is the carnitas burrito,” said Thomas, who likes to frequent the location about once a month or every other week to check out the local offerings for the food trucks.
Thomas said he would rather get food from the taco trucks that set up in the location than going to a chain fast food restaurant like a Popeye’s or McDonald’s.
“I just really like supporting more local businesses,” he said. “The taco trucks and the growing taco stands in Merced, it’s been great.”
